The PS3 Slim Is Currently The Ugliest Next Gen Console

Watch as Joystiq's very own Randy Nelson unbox the recently announced PS3 Slim [as of yesterday at least].  We know that on the 'inside' the PS3 is a beast of a machine [that unfortunately can't play PS2 games anymore], but as far as aesthetic design, this console iteration looks to be hand crafted by someone with the vision of a Steve Wonder or possibly a Ray Charles type.  The previous 'bulky' version of the PS3 wasn't the most convienient design, but at least it was...you know...eye catching.

One of the more odd comparisons in the clip is when Randy decides to compare the PS2 Slim with this Ugly Betty of a machine.  I think the most surprising thing about the new PS3 Slim is not only is it not as 'slim' as most people [or at least I] was hoping it would be, but the whole 'standing it on its side'-thing...not really that convienient.  Better shell out an extra $10 or $15 for that stable stand.

Pros: It's no longer a dust/fingerprint magnet. Con: Look at it.

District 9 Is Better Than Halo...

"Yes We Have Discovered That Your Celluar Coverage Could Be Better!"The header could be confusing to some of you who may not be in the know.  At the very least you should know that District 9 is one of the more realistic science fiction films to come out since Children of Men.  A movie made for *30 million dollars, directed by virtual unknown Neill Blomkamp, has a more realistic look than a 300 million dollar Transformer movie.  And to think, if it were not for production of a certain Halo movie falling through, we would have never gotten District 9.

The Hurt Locker, Go See It.

Jeremy Renner As An Explosives Technician

Before reading this review, I strongly implore you watch The Hurt Locker first.  It was the way I saw it and am therefore biased in my suggestion for how you should view this film. The Hurt Locker stars Jeremy Renner who plays Staff Sergeant William James. William is accompanied by his fellow elite bomb technicians Sergeant JT Sanborn [Anthony Mackie] and the youngster, Specialist Owen Eldridge [Brian Geraghty] all provide the best performance I have seen all year.  Directed by Kathyrn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker is definitely going to be on several peoples' lists for best movie of the year, and if it is not, then it honestly would not surprise me[The Visitor says "Hi!"].

Video: Gabe Newell on Left 4 Dead[2] and The PS3

Props to Geoff Keigley and the awesome staff over at Gametrailers for this segment. And what a segment it was [I apologize for all the 'videogamey commercial breaks], but Gabe gabbing about my favorite PC game is always going to make news on this part of the brog.

What is unfortunate to see is the lack of PS3 support. It isn't surprising, it isn't even something I blame him for, but out of all the beans he was willing to spill about showing interest in Wii and Natal to say 'No, we are not actively developing for the PS3' is pretty damn awful.

Columbus, OH: 80 year-old woman w/knife + Whitehall Police [Video]

August 2nd, outside of the Whitehall Walmart, an 80 year old woman; wielding a small knife was seen as a threat to the officers on the scene as well as the surrounding citizens. Using a wristlock the female officer subdues the woman by slamming her to the ground.  On the one hand, this elderly woman does have a knife and can inflict damage with a weapon. On the other hand, really? Slamming her to the ground?

I'm posting this crazy late and I have to get sleep...if there is anyone who has more info on how this began [and how it ended] I am sure more people would like to know.

UPDATE: Here's the NBC4 article. It turns out the 84 year old woman is struggling from dementia. [via DonnaNBC4]

Brutal Legend: Metal Rubix Cube Soundtrack

Needless to say, my level of excitement is consistently bubbling for Tim Shaffer's newest endevour.  I have no idea how he is able to get such a banging soundtrack line up [something tells me having Electronic Arts as your publisher doesn't hurt]. The rights managment has got to be a pretty penny. In other news, I don't get Rubix cubes. My grandfather owned one and it seemed like everyone in my family knew how to solve it except for me. Crap...gotta go to work, just thought I would post this for anybody who is just as enthused about this game. [To the point of not watching anything from the game, but to watch the creator and someone who is clearly from PR talk at length about who is going to be on the game's soundtrack.]

    Moon: Review

    Expect No Spoilers

The critically acclaimed movie made by David Bowie's son. Isn't that what everyone is saying? It's made by Bowie Zowie [a.k.a. Ducan Jones]! What people should be saying is, "This is an awesome movie, show it in more theaters!", but alas by the time you read this review; Moon will probably on its way to your local video rental store.

    Close Range

We joke, but you know if it were an actual game that came out this holiday season there would be a ton of 15 year-old boys begging their older siblings to get it for them.  Another note: I'm always amazed at the level of production value that has been going into the Onion's faux reporting.  Just how much money are those guys making in their duck suits and exploding cigar offices?

    It's Not That I Don't Believe You, It's Just That You're Crazy

Queen Orly Taitz is not crazy. She's gone sane in a crazy world. I actually had no idea about the 'Birther Movement' until today. I mean...i knew there were people out there that didn't believe Obama was a born here or there, but to put a face on the movement. All I can say is...thank you Orly Taitz...thank you.

    Roseanne...Wow...just...Wow.

Really? Jew Gingerbread Cookies?A photo shoot for Heeb magazine produced this, Roseanne Barr meeting photographer Richard Metzger.  I still don't know how to feel about this shot, or the tone of this shoot.  I'm envious, I will say that. Ever see an idea and say, "Damn, why didn't I think of that?"

For some reason my biggest issue is that the cookies look so awful. And according to Richard's story, it could be laced with something. Moreover, I think I like what Roseanne stands for as opposed to her actual comedy. I'm more of a Kat Williams meets Jim Gaffigan guy. Give me a comedian [or comedienne] that can talk about bacon and pimpin' and you got yourself a date.
