The Brog's Best Board Game Of 2010: Memoir '44

2010 will be known as the year The Brog went analog.

Board games? Yeah, we do that too. Well, this post alone should solidify my 'geek cred' as an all-around gamer [including sports]. There are a lot of gamers that are only digital and some that are analog, but occasionally the Venn diagram overlaps [and if you're reading this then you may be one of them]. What you see above is a game that was produced in 2004 for people caught between the many strategic elements of Catan and the lax play of Carcassonne.

What you see is Memoir '44 -- a war game that mimics historic battles fought during [of course] World War II. Maybe its because I've been obsessing over the engineering and technology of this time, but Memoir '44 is a surprisingly easy game to learn. Really cool game to add to the collection if you haven't already. I'm still a novice, but Memoir clearly has made an impression on me big enough ... well, for me to write about it. It's a game more reliant on how you play your combat cards more so than Risk's position & camping strategy. You'll need to learn when to turn down a battle very early on, something the first-person-shooter-in-me finds very hard to do.
