Black History Month: Black Video Game Characters Fail
Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 7:28PM
Just read an interesting article about black video game characters over at Edge. Definitely worth the read and discussion [and yes I do know that 'video game characters' by-and-large are pretty awful].

Its not a 'bad thing' to depict black, white, brown etc. people in video games. It is otherwordly to look at the games that have been produced in the past twenty years and see black people depicted as jovial comic relief or angry / violent. Games like Gears of War and Final Fantasy VII have shown what their respective eras of gaming had to contribute to the community, but its unfortunate that typecasting spreads as far as gaming does.
Nice one..
I have been playing video games from my childhood and this is really interesting article about the same. Now this time I am searching for some newly launched Tower defense games games.
Really nice post Thanks a lot for sharing...
Thanks...glad you enjoyed
Video games should definitely move away from the (not only racial) stereotypes that it often tries to depict. Until then, I don't think video games will be considered a viable medium for storytelling by the masses.

this totally insulting, as a Black gamer our race has been take only for secondaries roles or as enemies, the other thing is in the way that world look us, the only game in which a black is the main character is grand thef auto san andreas, and C.J is the typical black gangster.
thanks for the article, like it friend!
Glad you did!
