They got it right. Warner Premiere, will be releasing the 'minimally animated' Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic on DVD this Tuesday. I had the fortunate pleasure of wasting 5 and a half hours at work and watched every chapter. While watching the grand finale, which is translated perfectly, you will probably wonder, "How are they going to make a movie out of this?!"
Reasons You Should Watch Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic
- If you really have no clue about the Watchmen universe, consider this your crash course.
- You may not be into the actual 'reading-part' of the graphic novel, let this be an alternative.
- [To hipsters & elitist alike] I thought you were cool dude?
- If you are a fan of the graphic novel and want to see one of the best translations to anything ever!
- The graphic novel is a huge undertaking, so is this. The chapters are split up into episode format, making it a lot easier to digest.
Reasons You Should Not Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic
- You want your only exposure to the Watchmen universe to be the motion picture. Or you would rather postpone this obviously nerdy act until you see what kind of impression the movie or the graphic novel leaves.
- If you are not into alternative methods of storytelling, then you may want to remain in your vanilla world.
- It is very long. It takes up two DVD discs and if you do not have patience for character development, Watchmen as a whole will turn you off.
- Tom Stechshulte is the narrator. He is also all of the characters in the story. So imagine this is story time with Mr. Stechshulte. It may be jarring, and kinda weird, but it is a convention of the media you may not buy into.
- Turns out, you are not cool. If you are a person who hates fun and/or hates things by default, then be sure to pass on this and fall on a tack.
Edit: I hear that Warner Premiere and iTunes are partnering up and releasing this in chapter format on iTunes. I do not know how this will even out to the difference in how much you would pay online as opposed to buying it outright at retail, but there is that.
Later on today, I plan on braving the elements [it is 12 degrees here in Columbus, Ohio!] with a few of my homies to watch the Watchmen motion picture. This double DVD has set the bar fairly high.
