I guess it is that time again. This is where I say...the Ohio State University are my favorite football team and I'm so into college football right? Well, the truth is...I could honestly give a damn if OSU loses or wins in the largest scheme of things. I'm not a huge fan of college football and therefore, when it comes to my Alma Mater...even less enthusiastic.
However, there are times where my interest are truly piqued. There are times where I get kinda all caught up in it. It's fun, and off-putting afterward usually. I can't help but think, "This is what people are like all the time in Columbus?", by people I mean those that quote, "Bleed Scarlet & Grey".
More on this after the jump...
Games like this and against the wolverines kind of pull something out of me. Things that on first realization, I was kind of embarrassed by and even shame-filled. There are times where I absolutely HATE Columbus, OH around this time of year, the people are drunk and bloated, impolite in traffic & on foot. Children dawn face paint and stickers, in some cases their parents have applied.
Women dress in colors that show more skin than their pride in their team. Well...maybe it's not all that bad, but you get what I mean. I remember watching an old Seinfeld and Jerry freaking out a bit that the 'high-five' was the lowest form of human communication. A close second would have to be tailgating and 'bro-ing out' while wearing the same clothes as your bipedal brethren.
I am being harsh. Some of my best friends are huge O-State fans. This probably helps me get all 'juiced up' about some game days. I see these guys and I say, "These are logical thinking people [for the most part] so why shouldn't they have fun the way they want to?". I'd like to state that my gripe and misgivings come from how people 'show' their fandom and celebrate this openly. This isn't me 'looking down' on my neighbor or human beings in large. It really is just a reaction to how differently people engage in activities...sorry...events such as this.
I'm starting to blather and fade now. The gist...I REALLY hope OSU does well today [for some reason] against USC. To my USC homies...I hope your team doesn't fail to bad. To any OSU fans reading this...i'm not sorry if I offended you...and there is a possibilty that you know someone who is a bigger fan than you are...feel my pain. Understand that I may not want to wait behind your "Scarlet and Grey" painted Ford 1500...not because of its appearance, but because you're holding up traffic leaving the stadium!
